Mary Kay Holladay I have always loved the process of painting, being able to see on paper or canvas a replication of the beauty around me. It only made it better if others were equally pleased by the images I had been able to capture.

I recently re-located to Virginia Beach after having lived all my life in the Mid-west. What a joy it has been to experience these new surroundings, so very different from Indiana and Ohio.

I enjoy doing landscapes and still life work, but there is a real sense of freedom when I do abstract pieces.

When painting things of nature, I consider myself to be a representational artist, attempting to show color and shadow playing off of each other to create depth and beauty. My abstracts are more about contrasting colors and how they interact to elicit an emotional response from the viewer. It may not be the same one I have but that is actually part of the fun.

I started painting in oils but for the last several years I have painted in water based media. I find that I am always open to trying new things, new subject matter, new media and new techniques. My main desire is that whoever views my work will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
