Kathy Staicer has loved the arts for her entire life and expressing herself artistically is a large part of who she is. She inherited the desire to create from her mother and grandmother and has pursued many art forms. She has been involved in dance, theatre, music, poetry as well as painting and drawing. She has always put her heart into whatever she has worked on.
In 1984 she relocated with her family from Long Island New York to Virginia Beach, VA. This was a major change in her life. She has brought with her many influences from NY including the appreciation for the arts and an excitement of life. She began to search for a more positive attitude and live a more peaceful life. This is now more than ever prevalent in her art.
As her children moved on with their lives she was able to move on with her art with the support and encouragement of her husband. In 1996 she started exploring drawing and painting to a greater extent. All of her life she has memories of being moved by the beauty of a subject and having the desire to create it in painting form. Now she is able to experience the joy of capturing the essence of her subject.
In 2007 Kathy retired and has been able to pursue her art full time. She continues her studies and has explored new media. She currently works in oil, acrylic, watercolor, colored pencils and mixed media. At first she used to think that learning so many media would not allow her to improve in any one of them but the opposite is true. She is able to bring what she has learned in one media directly into another. When she is inspired to do a painting, she looks at her subject and usually sees what media it is calling for.
She has begun teaching and it is a pleasure for her to exchange ideas with her students and to experience the learning process along with them. She strives to share the joy found in painting and drawing with those eager to learn.
Kathy belongs to the Chesapeake Bay Watercolor Society, the Chesapeake Bay Artists Association and the Creative Arts of Tidewater. She also has taken on more art shows and is participating in many every year. She has won ribbons for her work and her paintings are living on the walls of homes across the country.
